Man Ray

Man Ray, 1890-1976. [Emmanuel Rudnitzky]. American painter.

A guiding light of the Dada movement and of Surrealism, the avant-garde photographer and painter was the only prominent American in the two movements. He lived in Paris for two decades, associating there with Cocteau, Dalí, Picasso, Max Ernst et al., with whom he shared avant-gardist leadership of the pan-European artistic group.

By the age of 20, he was already known by his pseudonym, which is a two-word unit in most scholarship.
